Portable Moose is an independent game development team based in Pittsburgh. What started as a solo operation in 2015, became a four person crew in 2025. We focus on creating narrative-driven games and staring into the abyss.

Steve Gabry

Award-winning indie game creator Steve Gabry has been creating games since 2009. As the founder of Portable Moose, Steve’s most known for his solo creation of the dark adventure game, Sally Face (2016-2019). He wears many hats, including artist, musician, writer, and game designer and often pulls inspiration from his dreams.

Steve’s career also includes co-founding Wither Studios (2010) and working with them as: creative director of Crowman & Wolfboy (2013, mobile platformer), artist/designer on Immure (2019, psychological horror), artist/designer on Touched by an Outer God (2020, action horror FPS), and director of The House of Hamelin (TBA, deckbuilding horror).

Michael Thomas

First joined Portable Moose in 2025 having already worked with Steve for over a decade in Wither Studios. Though he primarily focuses on his love of software engineering and more technical fields, Michael also has his hands in many of the other more artistic sides of game development (so long as it doesn't involve him having to draw).

When he isn't spending his time awkwardly writing about himself in the third person, he can be found watching the latest horror movies, listening to music, or bashing his head against his keyboard until something meaningful comes out of it.
